Chapter 271: Sam’s Illness?
Chapter 271: Sam’s Illness?
Not long after the fall of the military base, Sam and his team had retreated and found solace in a nearby abandoned house.
There were no zombies around and Anderson realized that it might be possible for them to have some sort of life as long as they stayed here.
Anderson was glad that they stuck with Sam or they would have died long ago but there came the question of what to do with the doctor.
He was an extra mouth to feed while providing nothing in return, there was no cure and this man tried his best to benefit personally from the situation.
However, Sam had been speaking to the doctor a lot more in private, what he was discussing was unknown but with each conversation, Sam made it clear that no one was to harm the doctor.
This was a drastic change considering he initially wanted him dead prompting Anderson to be curious about what it was that they could possibly be discussing.
However, he didn’t have to guess for long as Sam had killed one of their own after they were bitten by an undead crow.
There was no other way but Sam didn’t kill this person to destroy the brain but rather, cut open the skull and gently removed the brain from within without damaging it.
It was a sickening sight for those who knew the deceased but Sam didn’t care.
They couldn’t oppose him because he was the one that led them so they had to stomach the scene.
Sam proceeded to place the brain back and begin an operation to connect it back to make it function but this failed.
Sam lacked the necessary skills, even with the doctor’s guidance as this was a task that failed horrendously but Anderson understood what it was Sam was doing.
If the zombies could operate simply with a part of the brain active then; Sam could remove the brain to disable the zombie.
What would happen if he could put it back in? Would that bring the undead to life?
This was an interesting attempt but Sam was curious if it was possible.
Anderson now understood the kind of discussion that he must have had with the doctor.
Sam was growing a bit too fascinated with these zombies and Anderson knew this was a bad combination considering the kind of person that Sam was.
Anderson didn’t confront him when the others were around but he waited for Sam to be alone before he did that.
Night had fallen and Anderson sat beside Sam, who was taking in the fresh air.
"What do you want?" Sam asked the moment he sat.
"I want to talk to you about what you did today..." Anderson said; he was one of the few people who could air out his thoughts to Sam.
"He was a corpse, what does it matter what I do when you are still going to put him down? I found something..." Sam muttered and Anderson’s attention was piqued as he watched Sam rustle through his pocket.
"What is that?" Anderson asked as Sam removed a glowing purple rock from his pocket.
"Power, that is what," Sam said with a grin but Anderson knew that it looked a lot like the one that the doctor had used during his experiments but why was Sam holding it barehanded?
Even the doctor never did that.
"I wonder that too..." Sam said before putting it back in his pocket.
"Keep them under control and we shouldn’t have any problems," Sam instructed.
This was exactly what Anderson did but he began to notice changes in Sam.
He didn’t know what made him the way he was but Sam was a lot more unhinged.
This was until he gave in to the doctor’s request to use him as a form of experiment.
But that turned out horrendously and everyone but Sam and Anderson survived.
The house was set ablaze and Anderson was trapped inside forcing Sam to enter the building to get Anderson out.
Anderson was injured badly but Sam never came out and there was no way he would emerge from that fire unscathed either.

Clementine didn’t know what he was saying but she knew what Jason was, she knew he wasn’t a human but she knew that the only reason that Jason could keep it under control was because of his humanity.
Sam was the opposite of Jason and this made him a ticking time bomb should he become like Jason but that wasn’t quite right.
Sam wasn’t like Jason, he was a lot worse because he was still a human, he was simply exposed to the fragment for too long and this not only deteriorated his mental health but it gave him a surge of power in return.
Clementine knew she would find her answers soon but she had to go to Sam.
He needed her now more than ever and she wasn’t going to let him down.
She used the cover of the night to her advantage as she slipped away from the military base and left the area.

Sanders managed to find the location that Sam had been thanks to the raging flames from the place he had set ablaze.
Sanders tried to see if Sam had been here because he initially thought that Sam hadn’t left a trail there but he realized that wasn’t the case.
There was a trail leading here and the flames told him to draw him to this specific location.
Sanders managed to get into the building and realized that it was empty, there was no one or nothing in sight.
"What the fuck?" Sanders thought to himself but unfortunately for him, Sam was long gone and there was no way for him to keep track of him.
This left a huge question mark in what Sam had experienced but Sanders knew it was time to return to base, he had been out for too long and Sam was far too dangerous.
